These days, most of us are caught in a constant whirlwind of mundane tasks and major activities that we hardly even take time to “smell the flowers” – bonding with our family, reconnecting with our inner self and communing with nature. Thus, why should other people event think of volunteering to an organization (or a cause) when they have little time left for themselves?
Tom Brokaw, a famous American media person once said, “It's easy to make a buck. It's a lot tougher to make a difference”, I could not agree more.
Thus, I commend the women and men of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, ho share their time, talents and resources in making sure that they support the “search and rescue, environmental protection, disaster relief, community service and marine safety” activities of the Davao Gulf. They understand the limitations of the Philippine Coast Guard and the vastness of responsibilities placed on the latter’s shoulder.
Climate change and the global economic crisis are changing the landscape of our lives: a worse turn for others whose livelihood depend on the resources of the Gulf and a greater challenge for the business sector who are trying to squeeze in profit in an era of higher awareness for quality and safety.
It is my hope that this website is a venue for us to communicate, connect and share the joy we find in volunteering as Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Let me end with another quote from Antoine de Saint-Exupery “ If you want to build a ship, don't drum up the women and men to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.”
Volunteer. There is much you can do.
