CREATION OF THE PCGLegacies of the Philippine Coast Guard

The Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao came to be after it was activated as one of the Major units of the Philippine Coast Guard Pursuant  to  General Orders  Nr 57 HPCG dtd 10  Aug 1984. Five (5)Coast Guard Stations formerly under the 3CGD were simultaneously transferred and placed under the Administrative and Operational control of the Eight Coast Guard District last September 15, 1999.

With the recent transfer of the PCG to the Department of Transportation and Communications, The 8th Coast Guard District was renamed Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao in accordance with HPCG Memo Circular Nr 13 dated 18 October 2000.

The area of Responsibility of the Coast Guard  District Southeastern Mindanaocovers the  southeastern part of Mindanao from Cantilan, Surigao Del Sur in the North down to Maguling Point. Maitum, Sarangani Province in the South to include the islands of Sarangani and Balut, Davao del Sur.

At present, CGDSEM has five (5) Stations, Coast Guard Stations Davao,General Santos,Bislig, Mati, and Sarangani. Twelve (14) Detachments and Seven (7) Clearing Outposts, One team of SOG and four (4) K-9 DOGS with handlers to assist in undertaking the PCG Mission and Functions in our respective Area of responsibility.

In responding to our nation’s call for a safe, clean and secure maritime environment, Vice Admiral Tamayo committed to pursue the following strategic priorities he has established for the PCG under his administration to complement the already existing PCG Strategic Navigational Plan:
